Georgia Bulldogs 81, Arkansas Razorbacks 59

ESPN's Bracketology guru Joe Lunardi was recently asked in a chat if the Razorbacks would make the NCAA with a 10-6 conference record and two wins in the SEC Tournament. Lunardi, presumably taking a break from putting together his latest projections for the 2048 NCAA Tournament, replied, "Maybe ... ."

Assuming for a second that Lunardi is correct, the Hogs' chances of making the Big Dance probably went up in flames this evening. It's hard to imagine Arkansas getting 10 conference wins after tonight's loss in Athens. The game against Georgia appeared to present the Razorbacks with their best chance for a road win. Instead, Arkansas turned in easily its worst performance of the year.

The Hogs were basically bludgeoned from the get-go by a team that carried a 1-7 SEC record into tonight's contest, and to make matters worse, Michael Sanchez went out with a bad-looking shoulder injury. No word yet on his status.

What are your thoughts? Will these Hogs ever notch a road win?

I really don't think so...

and that means we don’t go to the tournament (I don’t count the NIT). I watched the game tonight and it was truly ugly and embarrassing.

I hope our road woes are mainly a factor of youth but this is not the first time an Anderson-coached team has performed abysmally on the road.

I simply

Don’t understand how this team can beat Michigan and Vanderbilt at home and get clubbed mercilessly by Georgia on the road? How?

Worst Road Performance

Since Nolan’s first year at Texas Tech. And that one I kicked a table through my screened in porch. When a team goes bad in the Richardson/Anderson Scheme, it gets really, really ugly. All hope lost for this season, and how Mike and these guys didn’t understand it is beyond me.

Now marketing the Joe Adams "Cloak of Invisibility" (TM)

Down by 24 in the first half (ugh)

As optimistic as I am, Georgia was the best chance at getting a road win. If Mike doesn’t correct this, I can see us spiraling into a 6-10 finish in conference. I don’t want it to happen, but with our inside game (we barely lost the rebounding contest last night 42-20), we are in trouble.
Go Hogs!!!

I think that performance pretty much killed any chance

at making the NCAAs. If we keep playing like that, the NIT is gone too.

Patience

What we are seeing on the road is how much the loss of Marshawn Powell hurts. What Arkansas generally lacks at the moment is a dependable player that can score on his own when the offense is not working. You have to have that guy to fill in the gaps in road games and we don’t have it without Powell at the moment. B J Young is not that guy yet, although I believe he will be by this time next year. Also, a freshman heavy team often hits a wall at this point in the year, and I think this one has. The truth is that this team has overachieved this season, and people’s expectations have gotten out of proportion with reality. This has always been an NIT team at best, and I’ll be happy to see them play there this year. Those attacking Mike Anderson need to take a deep breath and wait for these players to grow up and for us to get enough players to make the system work. This group of Freshman is not an NBA-ready group like those at Kentucky, and expecting them to be is simply not reasonable.
