Diversion

Tuesday Diversionary Maneuver

In the ExPats' never ending quest to bring you diversion from obsessing on the current basketball season, we offer up the most unlikely Florida State Seminole of all time: Myron Rolle, Rhodes scholar. Let that trip off your tongue, as you contemplate an NFL-caliber D-back postponing the NFL so he can study for a year at Oxford. (England, Bubba. Not Mississippi.) In your best Bobby Bowden voice, say this: "He's a good kid; he is." Live and in person, Monday night at the Clinton School in Little Rock. That's right, not the Touchdown Club. The Clinton School.

While they're in football mode over at the Clinton School, they have decided to follow Rolle with a visit from Warrick Dunn two days later. As in, the slightly undersized Tampa Bay running back. Dunn is not a Rhodes Scholar, so this one is a little harder to understand than Rolle, but, Dunn does have a new book out and, hey, nice change of pace from yet another lecture by the assistant undersecretary for East African affairs on the recent elections in Kenya.

In case you needed something to do next week . . .

Monday Afternoon Diversion

As part of our ongoing effort to cheer up our readers, here's an absolutely glorious mid-1980s TV ad for the Contour lounge chair, courtesy of YouTube user amnewsboy. The clip is actually slightly Razorback related, since it features the late Hog announcer Paul Eells.

There are so many things to love about this ad, but as of this moment, my favorite part is the footage of the man puffing away on a nice, fat cigar as he enjoys a heretofore unattainable level of relaxation. Enjoy.

Monday Morning Diversion

After a rough weekend (even in my most pessimistic preseason moods I didn't expect the Hogs to get blown out by Auburn at home), it's time to revive the Monday Morning Diversion feature.

So, put your worries aside and enjoy this picture of one of my favorite spots in the Natural State, Petit Jean mountain, at sunset. In the comments feel free to discuss Razorback gymnastics, football recruiting, a good movie you've seen recently, etc...just nothing about that sport where the guys try to throw a ball inside that metal circle.

Breaking: The Monday Diversion Has Been Cancelled

After the last two brutal Mondays, it looked like the Monday Diversion would become a regular feature. Instead, due to recent developments we've given it the week off.

Please savor the win over Auburn while you enjoy this lovely picture of the Buffalo River:

Time for Another Monday Diversion

Mondays are getting pretty depressing around here. Last week, following the Texas blowout and massive collapse of our financial system, I posted a clip of the great 1989 win over Houston. I was hoping a repeat wouldn't be necessary, but now that we're facing another Monday with the hangover from a recent rout and a stock market that continues to plummet it seems as if another diversion is in order (and the way things are going on both fronts, it won't be the last one).

So, take a break from stocking your bomb shelter with water, ammunition and non-perishable food items and enjoy this clip (once again courtesy of the prolific Rexgasm) of the 1998 game against Alabama:
