Felix Jones

Felix...Wow

More post-Bama palette cleansing for you:

With impressive performances in back-to-back hugely hyped and nationally televised games, Felix is showing the rest of the country what Hog fans have known all along: the dude is damn good. (fun fact: he's the first rookie since 2002 to score TDs in each of his first three professional games)

Now all we need is for D-Mac to play on a legit team and everything will be right with the (professional) football world.

He Just Might Make Me a Cowboys Fan

(AP Photo/Tim Sharp)

What a Monday night game - and what a performance by Felix Jones.

One day after his former Razorback teammate grabbed a bit of the national football spotlight, Felix put on quite a show last night, returning six kicks for a total of 247 yards. His evening included a 98-yard return for a first-quarter touchdown, as well as returns of 43 and 31 yards.

I've always been fairly ambivalent about the Cowboys, half-heartedly pulling for them every now and then because of the Arkansas connection but usually too annoyed by some of their players to be anything close to a fan. But with Felix now in a Dallas uniform, it's going to be hard not to actively root for them.

Not a Bad First Day on the Job

Felix Jones sure didn't waste any time in making a good impression: On his very first NFL carry, he scored an 11-yard touchdown. Mr. Jones finished the Cowboys' victory over Cleveland with 62 yards on nine carries; his longest run of the day was 22 yards. And oh yeah - he also returned a kick for 20 yards.

Our small army of lawyers is working to build a case that Felix actually has some NCAA eligibility left and should be allowed to play Saturday against Texas. Needless to say, that's proving to be quite a challenge.

Felix in the Spotlight (A Little Bit)

Courtesy of reader Eastville Holdings comes this nice Felix Jones profile from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The whole thing is worth a read, but the best anecdote is this one (which was news to me...I don't recall hearing this reported anywhere else after the game, although I could certainly be wrong):

When Arkansas beat LSU last fall in three overtimes, Lee called for a toss sweep with the option to pass on the 2-point conversion.

"Let’s put it in the hands of McFadden and see if they can tackle him," Lee told then Arkansas coach Houston Nutt.

The huddle broke from the sidelines, and there was McFadden not going anywhere.

"What is Felix doing running out there?" Nutt said into his headset, noting that he had no more timeouts.

"Who cares?" Lee said.

Much like McFadden, no one could tackle Jones either, and he scored on the sweep designed for McFadden for the game-winning points in one of the nation’s biggest upsets of the season.

Checking In On Felix

From the DC Fanatics blog, here's a nice Topps photo shoot and interview with Felix Jones. The best part comes about two minutes in when they surprise him with a first peek at his brand new rookie card. Happy times:

Bye Bye Felix?

The Hog Blog is reporting that, when asked about McFadden and Jones at a press conference today, new defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson said "They're great players. I wish they weren't leaving."

Nothing has been announced officially yet, but we definitely don't like the sound of that...

What Now, Felix?

One of the more underrated recent subplots of the ongoing soap opera that is Razorback football is the "will he or won't he" status of Felix Jones and the NFL draft. Although he's spent his Arkansas career in the shadow of that other legendary runner (in the eyes of the national media, at least), it cannot be stressed enough that Felix is REALLY DAMN GOOD in his own right and would probably make some lucky NFL team very happy next year.

Although some reports have him projected as a likely first round pick in April, there are a lot of talented RBs out there (this was the "Year of the Running Back", after all) so perhaps he'd like to spend his senior year in the spotlight where he could rack up gaudy stats in Bobby Petrino's offense and presumably earn himself a few extra million by boosting himself into a better draft position.

All in all, that's a lot to think about for someone who's not even of legal drinking age yet. It's the opinion of this blogger that he'll probably leave early but until we know for sure there's still a little room for hope. At any rate, his deadline to decide is January 15th, so we'll know soon.
