Hog faithful gather in North Little Rock church, aren't disappointed
As if football wasn't already enough to get you excited, here comes ol' Mike Anderson and practically every other former Hog traipsing into Park Hill Baptist Church on Thursday night to get the masses fired up about the Return of Hawgball.
And firing up, they did. Blake Eddins got the action started by shooting from the hip regarding all kinds of hot button issues - as well as issues that have downgraded to tepid with the passage of time. God bless Blake and his willingness to stir it up!
On Rotnei Clarke:
Through all of this, Coach Anderson has never complained. He’s been the same Mike Anderson that recruited me and recruited some of ya’ll. He’s been humble, he’s gone to work and everything. He didn’t complain once, he didn’t pout. He dad didn’t call a CBSSports.com writer and say he’s gonna transfer to Gonzaga if he didn’t get his way and all that good stuff.
On Stan Heath:
Bequette discusses Oden's dismissal, Willy's surprising agility and the rarity of the elite white SEC d-lineman
Jake Bequette sat down with Sync magazine to discuss Oden's dismissal, golfing with Tyler Wilson and Dylan Breeding and the surprisingly strong form Willy Robinson showed on a flying full-body impromptu tackle unleashed the night before the 2008 Texas game.
Also, Sync's sports columnist talked some with Bequette about his unique status as a white All-SEC defensive end. That dovetailed into how his situation is similar to Peyton Hillis' and how it could potentially inspire some kids from central Arkansas private schools. The discussion sparked the first blog post of thesportsseer.com, a Sync-affiliated blog which aims to look deeper into Arkansas sports.
Hatfield or Ford?
What's up everybody,
Clemson fan here. Since we both had Danny Ford and Ken Hatfield as head coaches. I was wondering, looking back, who do Arkansas fans hold in higher regard, Ford or Hatfield?
I'll give you a little background first on why this would interest me and some other Clemson fans.
For Clemson fans, Danny Ford is an icon and widely regarded as the most successful coach in Clemson history because he led us to our only National Championship in '81 and also under his guidance, we were the 5th winningest program of the 80s. It's been a long 20 years for us since he was forced to resign.
Ken Hatfield was the man who replaced the man at Clemson and is commonly regarded by Clemson fans as a mistake of a hire that ended the most successful run in Clemson history.
It occurred to me that, living in South Carolina, this might not be the sentiment of Arkansas fans at all. In fact, it could justifiably be the opposite for Razorback fans. So, I'm just curious as to what ya'll think and how you remember these two coaches. Thanks for indulging me and good luck this year! We Clemson fans will be pulling for you on on November 5th.
Check this out: What happened to Mitch Mustain
While I was drinking my morning cup of joe at the computer a familiar face popped up on a news article. I hadn't heard anything about him since he was arrested for selling prescription drugs (not marijuana as is common in SoCal) what later became just an "isolated incident". Anyway, I may go see my old fav-QB up in Canada sometime.

Joe Johnson talks Mike Anderson, Nolan Richardson, Aaron Ross and Archie Goodwin
Dude let Hog Nation have it on a variety of fronts.
Freshman struggles?
Coach Anderson has meant the world to me. He motivated me on and off the court. One of my toughest times was when I got to college and I didn’t have my ACT scores, I was Prop 48, and I had to stay off campus, study for the ACT and it got to the point where it all kind of got mind-boggling for me.
Check.
In-depth scouting report on national Top-10 Hog recruit Archie Goodwin?
Archie’s gonna be a special player. I had the luxury of playing pickup basketball with him yesterday. I think he’s far ahead of where I was going into the 12th grade, so I was really surprised. I think our games are very similar. He’s long, can handle the basketball. He makes great plays that can’t be taught. I think where he got me at that age is that...
Hellz yeah, people.
Crazy 1st inning dooms Hogs in SEC tourney opener
Helped by some timely errors in the field and timely hitting at the plate, Bama opened the 2011 SEC baseball tournament with a 5 run first inning that proved too much for the Hogs as Bama rolled 7-4. Randal Fant was charged with the loss after failing to make it out of the first. Brandon Moore pitched 8.2 innings in relief, giving up only 2 runs and saving the bullpen for what will be a long ride if the Hogs are going to fight their way out of the loser's bracket. The Hogs got on the board with 3 runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth; however, Bama's pitching shutdown any thoughts of a rally in the final three innings.
The Hogs will send DJ Baxendale, our #1 starter, to the mound tomorrow morning at 9:30 to face the loser of Florida/MSU. Television coverage will be on CSS and ESPN3.com.

Mallett a choke artist? Breaking down the stats
A defense of Mallett's production against Top-25 competition during his two college seasons, plus a breakdown on how those numbers stack up against Newton, Gabbert, Locker, Dalton and Ponder.
"One of the largest questions looming over the upcoming NFL Draft is how far Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, once a seemingly sure-fire top-15 pick, will drop. Some commentators — CBS’ Phil Simms chief among them — believe Mallett warrants a top-10 pick, while others have pushed him to the early second round.
Reasons for this forecasted fall can be divided into off and on-field concerns.
The former gives NFL brass most reason for pause, as personality and character defects can ruin a multi-million dollar investment, pushing a tantalizingly talented, cannon-armed prospect into a legacy landfill strewn with the likes of Dan McGwire, Jeff George, Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell. Mallett pounders have strung together red flags they say wave ominously over his nearly 6-foot-7 frame...."
Here's a more nuanced look at how Mallett fared against the very best of the Top-25:

Willie Cutts history lesson?
Was wondering if anyone here could help me out. As I am prone to do, I was randomly searching the other night, and pulled up the all-time McDonalds All-American roster.
Diamond Hog Update - San Diego State Series
The Diamond Hogs made the most of their trip out west, taking 3 of 4 from San Diego State and coming just shy of a sweep by the thinnest of margins. Poor relief pitching, which plagued the Hogs last season, reared its ugly head again and made several games closer than they should have been.
Highlights
Game 1: With the help of 2 errors on the play, James McCann hits an inside-the-park HR in the 7th... on a sacrifice bunt. Pitcher Geoffrey Davenport atones for his poor showing against McNeese State by striking out 7 in 5.1 innings of relief after Ryne Stanek got knocked out early. Arkansas notches a 12-4 win.
