We pretty much expected this to happen, but now it's official. Arkansas will face LSU in the traditional Friday at 1:30 slot. CBS also announced a few selections that were also expected, as well as the dates of their two 2013 doubleheaders.
Auburn is promoting this weekend's series against Arkansas as one of their most important of the season, what with NCAA hopes possibly on the line. As a result, they're offering incentives to get students to show up and create "the electric atmosphere Plainsman Park is known for". Whatever that is. So the first 500 students to tonights game get free hot dogs and drinks on the Tiger Terrace. That's pretty cool. First 500 students on Friday get an Aubbie wobblehead. Nice. But on Saturday? First 100 students get a "Max Credit Union Auburn Baseball" autographed by "volunteer assistant coach" Gabe Gross. Feel that Plainsman electricity!
His lack of concern for your run-of-the-mill Twitter troll is becoming well known throughout our great country. Dustin Hockensmith of Pennlive.com has amassed some of Bret Bielema's greatest comebacks over the last five months.
Remember how Ryan Mallett dropped to the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft because of "character concerns"? Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald describes the quarterback as a near model citizen who has bettered himself as well as the community, and that's the reason multiple teams have made trade inquiries for him.
The folks at College Football News asked me to opine on the impact of Mitchell's transfer. In short, not much...if Brandon Allen stays healthy.
Bielema spoke to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently and touched on all those topics and more. Most of this link is written in a Q&A format, so you see Bielema elaborate on these topics. Interesting to see his recruiting philosophy regarding the state of Georgia. I'm sure the question was raised since this is the Atlanta paper, but it's the first time we remember Bielema discussing Georgia recruiting this bluntly.
I wrote this over a year ago for ArkansasSports360, but talk of the 9 game schedule is heating up again so I thought I'd post it as a refresher.
From Chris Murray: If the Hogs plan to host a regional in the CWS, they need wins, and rainouts against bad SEC teams hurt Arkansas' chances.
93.3 FM announced today that former Hog QB Clint Stoerner would be co-hosting a new morning sports talk show with former Hog basketball player, and former co-host on The Buzz, Pat Bradley. The show is set to debut May 6.
According to the Boston Globe, there is a slightly stronger chance Mallett will be dealt rather than staying in New England. The article cites Cleveland as a favorite to land Mallett if the Browns can come up with the 1st or 2nd round pick the Patriots reportedly covet.
