"Well, the NCAA thought we had to," Carroll replied, drawing immediate laughter from assembled reporters. "They didn't quite understand how you could have this much fun playing football. I'm serious about that. They could not figure it out and thought something must be wrong."
USC is lucky that hubris isn’t an NCAA violation, else the Trojans would be facing the death penalty.
Former USC coach Pete Carroll is expected to attend USC’s meeting with the NCAA "to support the university," according to a Seattle Seahawks spokesman.
Although Carroll has no legal obligation to attend, it’s commonplace for former coaches to participate in these meetings if the allegations took place on their watch.
Carroll says that the NCAA has nothing on USC regarding football.
Heard him on the radio today. He basically said that there is something there, which I took "something" as Reggie and his family took gifts. He then elaborated that that "something" had no involvement from the university. He also said that the NCAA initially interviewed everyone 5 years ago, but he has not had any contact since then.
Bumped - I am not as confident as PC on the NCAA they have never been consistent...P
"I'm going to miss competing against Pete. He was as passionate for his program as I am mine. I thought we were gaining on him. I wanted another shot."
I spoke with Carroll early this morning about his decision to leave USC and his new job with the Seattle Seahawks.
On the possibility of landing what he considered a perfect NFL opportunity: "I had given up on it, but it came out of nowhere."
On whether he left because of possible NCAA sanctions: "Not in any way. Because I know where we stand. It’s just a process we have to go through. We know we’ve fought hard to do right."
On whether he had any regrets: "I’ve given everything I’ve had. There was never going to be a good time."

A prominent USC source close to the athletic department said Friday that Carroll joining the Seahawks was "going down."
Members of Seattle's coaching staff, source said, also were informed Friday afternoon that the franchise now will hire a head coach before hiring a general manager, which also is consistent with Carroll's prior statements about considering any return to the NFL. ...
Said another source close to Carroll: "You're about to see a big headline that shakes up the major college football world," in reference to the Seahawks' development. The Seahawks did not confirm but also did not deny that Carroll is a leading candidate to become coach.
Interesting point to note: Seahawks chairman Paul Allen and CEO Tod Leiweke fired Jim Mora in Los Angeles, where Pete Carroll lives.
Football source on Pete Carroll to Seahawks: "Done deal. Done done done deal." That's not 100% confirmation, but I'm inclined to believe it
